Three Radio Nasim journalists released a day after Taliban detention

Three journalists from Radio Nasim who were detained by Taliban intelligence in Daikundi province on Wednesday have been released, local sources said Thursday.

The journalists include Sultan-Ali Jawadi, the station’s director, along with reporters Saifullah Rezaee and Mujtaba Qasemi. The reasons for their arrest remain unclear, and Taliban officials have not publicly commented.

The incident comes amid a recent surge in Taliban arrests of journalists and media workers across the country.

The three were previously arrested by Taliban forces in October 2023. Jawadi, who was sentenced to one year in prison for “propaganda against the Taliban,” was released in March 2024 after serving six months.

Radio Nasim was also shuttered by Taliban in mid-2023 and resumed operations five months later.
