Father of four dies by suicide in Kandahar, sources say

The man, named Abdullah, took his life at an industrial park in Police District 5 of Kandahar city.

A man identified as the father of four children died by suicide in Kandahar city, according to local sources, marking the second such incident in the province this week.

The man, named Abdullah, took his life at an industrial park in Police District 5 of Kandahar city, sources told Amu TV. He was employed at a factory within the park.

Sources said that severe economic hardship and mounting psychological pressure contributed to the man’s death. “Poverty and financial struggles had pushed him to the brink,” one individual familiar with the case said.

Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

On Saturday, June 28, a young man also died by suicide in Kandahar, while a similar case was reported in the eastern province of Nangarhar. In that case, the Taliban said the young man had a drug addiction, though his family has not confirmed the claim.

Mental health challenges remain deeply underreported and under-addressed in Afghanistan, where social stigma and limited access to psychological support often prevent individuals from seeking help.
