Rohullah Mousawi, Afghanistan’s lone competitor at the Asian Muay Thai Championships, has advanced to the final of the 60-kilogram weight class, guaranteeing at least a silver medal for his country.
Mousawi defeated Kim Ryan Echins of the Philippines in his opening match and overcame Vietnam’s Dao Dai Hai, a local favorite, in the semifinals. The victories ensure Afghanistan a place on the championship podium.
He is set to face an opponent from Thailand in the final bout, scheduled for later this week.
The tournament, which began June 20 and runs through June 26 in the northern Vietnamese city of Tai Nguyen, features fighters from 40 countries across Asia.
