Rah-e Farda, a private television and radio station, announced Tuesday that it has resumed broadcasting after a two-month hiatus ordered by the Taliban.
The station was taken off the air in late April after the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture cited “repeated complaints by journalists and staff” regarding unpaid salaries and benefits dating back several years.
In a statement, Rah-e Farda expressed gratitude to its audience for their support and pledged to resume operations with “a renewed approach, amplifying the voices of the people more than ever.”
Founded on September 26, 2006 (4 Mehr 1385 in the Afghan calendar) in Kabul, Rah-e Farda was established by prominent Afghan politician Mohammad Mohaqiq. As one of the country’s leading private media outlets, its relaunch signals a modest reconciliation between independent journalism and the Taliban authorities.
