Saudi Arabia expressed “deep concern” on Sunday over the United States’ attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, urging all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation as tensions in the region continue to rise.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom reaffirmed its opposition to violations of Iranian sovereignty, echoing an earlier statement released on June 13 in which it condemned the initial Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is following with deep concern the developments in the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly the targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States of America,” the ministry said in the statement.
The statement underscored the need for all sides to “exert all possible efforts to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions, and avoid further escalation,” warning that the current phase of the conflict is “highly sensitive.”
The Kingdom also called on the international community to intensify its diplomatic efforts to achieve a political solution. “A political solution would bring an end to the crisis and open a new chapter for achieving security and stability in the region,” the statement added.
The comments came a day after Trump confirmed that American warplanes had bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in response to what Washington described as Iran’s refusal to de-escalate and return to negotiations.
Saudi Arabia, which has sought to maintain a delicate balance in its relations with both Washington and Tehran, has grown increasingly vocal in its calls for regional stability amid fears that a broader war could disrupt global energy markets and spill over into neighboring countries.
