Afghanistan prepares to face Syria in Asian Cup Qualifier

RIYADH — Afghanistan’s national football team is finalizing preparations for its upcoming match against Syria, scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, as part of the Asian Cup qualifying campaign.

The match, to be held in Saudi Arabia, will be the team’s first under newly appointed Italian head coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese.

Players say they are motivated and optimistic following a productive week of training.

“We are preparing for the June 10 match against Syria. The whole team is training with energy,” said Omid Mousavi, a national team member. “We have a new coach, and we hope to get a good result.”

Midfielder Habibullah Hotak echoed the sentiment, saying the squad has been in camp at Al-Azhar in Saudi Arabia for the past six days. “The training sessions have been strong, and our Italian coach is working closely with us,” he said.

The team hopes the fresh leadership and renewed focus will improve its standing in the qualifiers and bring positive momentum to the country’s football.
