Residents of two districts in eastern Khost Province have constructed a bridge connecting their communities to the provincial center, using their own funds and labor, local sources said.
The project, led by residents of Musa Khel and Qalandar districts, cost approximately two million Afghanis (around $28,800 USD) and was completed without outside support, according to individuals involved.
Local residents said the bridge will serve as a critical link between the two districts and the capital of Khost, easing access for travel and emergency medical care. In the past, crossing the river became nearly impossible during the rainy season, when flash floods regularly cut off the area and left patients stranded without access to hospitals.
“Every time it rained, the river would flood and we couldn’t get our patients to the provincial hospital. Now, with this bridge, we have hope,” said one local resident.
Community members said they contributed both financially and physically to the construction, highlighting a pattern of grassroots efforts in the province. In recent years, Khost residents have also pooled resources to build schools, health centers, roads, and other essential infrastructure in the absence of state investment.
