Eighteen horses belonging to former Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum have been handed over to his brother in the northern province of Jawzjan, local sources told Amu on Monday.
The transfer was carried out in Sheberghan, the provincial capital, under the supervision of an assigned commission and in the presence of local witnesses, sources said.
According to sources, the handover followed two separate directives from the Taliban chief minister’s office.
Taliban officials claimed they had spent nearly 12 million Afghanis — around $173,000 — over the past four years on feeding, veterinary care, and salaries for guards assigned to the horses, which were held at a riding facility in Sheberghan.
The horses were transferred to Mohammad Omar Dostum, commonly known as Qari Khan, a brother of the former strongman who led northern militia forces before fleeing the country following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
