Young man from Afghanistan fatally shot near his home in Texas, sources say

HOUSTON — An Afghan national was shot and killed near his home in Texas on Sunday, sources familiar with the incident and his relatives told Amu TV.

The victim, identified as Rais Silab, was originally from Khost province in southeastern Afghanistan. Sources said Silab received a phone call from friends on Sunday, June 1, and was shot shortly after leaving his residence.

Details surrounding the motive and identity of the assailants remain unclear. As of Tuesday, Texas state police and other U.S. law enforcement officials had not publicly commented on the case.

The incident follows another case reported last week in which an Afghan man was fatally shot during a confrontation with police in Texas late in April. That shooting, which involved a verbal altercation, has also raised questions among Afghan diaspora communities.
