Taliban have dismissed at least 211 police officers and employees linked to the former government from their posts in the northern province of Jawzjan, local sources said on Wednesday.

The individuals, many of them former security personnel who continued working under Taliban rule after the group’s return to power in 2021, were ordered to hand over government equipment and property, the sources said.

A letter signed by Abdul Sattar Saber, the Taliban’s police chief in Jawzjan, instructed local departments to enforce the dismissals. The directive was confirmed by multiple sources familiar with the order.

Taliban have not issued a public statement on the matter.
