Taliban arrest another religious scholar in Kabul, sources say

Taliban intelligence forces have detained a religious scholar in Kabul, according to local sources familiar with the matter.

Sirajuddin Nabil, a religious scholar, was arrested on Sunday in the Qala-e-Fathullah area of Kabul. The reason for his detention remains unclear. Taliban have not issued a statement regarding the case.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over the Taliban’s treatment of religious figures perceived as ideologically or politically independent. Earlier this week, Taliban authorities in Helmand sentenced another cleric, Bashir Ahmad Hanafi, to eight months in prison and banned him from international travel for two years.

Last week, Taliban detained Abdul Qadir Qanit, a religious scholar, who has been arrested for the fourth time.

Observers say the recent detentions may signal a broader crackdown on dissenting or non-aligned religious voices within Afghanistan.
