KABUL, Afghanistan — Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, arrived in Kabul on Friday for a series of meetings with senior Taliban officials, in what marks his second official visit to the country’s capital in less than a month.
In a statement posted on X, Sadiq said the visit would focus on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing a range of pressing issues, including border security, economic cooperation, and the status of Afghan migrants currently residing in Pakistan.
Taliban have not yet issued a formal statement on the visit.
The trip comes at a time of heightened tension between the two countries, particularly over cross-border violence and Pakistan’s mass deportation of undocumented Afghans. Islamabad has recently stepped up efforts to engage directly with Taliban authorities on issues of regional stability and migration management.
Sadiq previously visited Kabul earlier this month for similar discussions. His return signals Pakistan’s continued push to manage its complex and often fraught relationship with the Taliban government, which Islamabad has not formally recognized but maintains regular diplomatic contact with.
