Veronika Boskovic Pohar, the European Union’s Chargé d’Affaires in Afghanistan, traveled to Kandahar on Wednesday to urge Taliban officials to lift restrictions on EU-funded projects, sources told Amu.
According to sources, Pohar met with Mullah Shirin, the Taliban governor of Kandahar, and other senior officials at the governor’s office.
During the meeting, the EU envoy urged the Taliban to stop interfering in projects related to refugee repatriation support, healthcare, water management, and education—and to allow female employees to continue working.
She also warned that EU-funded projects could be halted if Taliban interference continues, sources said.
The EU diplomat later visited various aid projects in Kandahar that have been affected by Taliban restrictions.
Meanwhile, the Taliban governor’s office in Kandahar confirmed the meeting, stating that Pohar assured continued EU assistance to the Afghan people.
According to sources, in recent months, several humanitarian projects in Kandahar have either scaled back operations or been suspended due to Taliban interference.
