TASHKENT, Uzbekistan — Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Afghanistan’s territory should not be used by militant groups to launch attacks on other countries, including Pakistan.
Speaking at a joint meeting Wednesday with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Sharif said a stable Afghanistan is crucial for regional connectivity.
“A peaceful and stable Afghanistan is vital for regional connectivity and progress,” he said.
Mirziyoyev emphasized strengthening relations with Afghanistan and said discussions on Afghanistan’s situation, particularly border security, were part of his talks with Sharif.
Sharif traveled to Uzbekistan on Wednesday. Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concerns about the presence of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Pakistani officials have urged the Taliban to disarm and arrest TTP members, but the Taliban have repeatedly denied Pakistan’s claims.
