4.5-magnitude earthquake shakes Herat

HERAT, Afghanistan — A 4.5-magnitude earthquake rattled Herat Province in western Afghanistan early Friday.

The tremor struck at approximately 5:11 a.m. (Kabul time), centered around the Karrokh district and felt across much of Herat city and surrounding areas. According to USGS, the earthquake was also felt in Turkmenistan.

As of midday, locals say there have been no reports of casualties or significant property damage.
