A blast in central Kabul on Wednesday afternoon injured at least 11 people, including two young children, according to the humanitarian medical organization Emergency.

The explosion occurred around 2 p.m. local time in a busy section of the Pamir Cinema area, a bustling clothing market in Police District 1, the organization said in a statement.

“So far, we have received 11 wounded people at the hospital,” said Stefano Gennaro Smirnov, Emergency’s Deputy Country Director in Afghanistan. “Among them are a three-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy, a sixteen-year-old boy, two women, and six men, one of whom is in critical condition.”

The blast struck as the market, which specializes in second-hand clothing, was opening, drawing large crowds. “This is the Pamir Cinema neighborhood, one of the most densely populated areas in Kabul,” Smirnov noted. “Many of those affected by this attack are likely to be living in conditions of severe poverty.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, and the Taliban, who control the city, have yet to comment on the incident.
