Usmon Toshev named head coach of Afghanistan’s national football team

KABUL — The Afghanistan Football Federation announced Monday that Usmon Toshev, a seasoned coach from Uzbekistan, has been appointed as the head coach of Afghanistan’s national soccer team.

Toshev, who signed a one-year contract, will take over from Ashley Michael Westwood, the English coach who stepped down in August. Westwood’s resignation was reportedly due to financial difficulties, including delayed salary payments and banking challenges amid Afghanistan’s ongoing economic crisis.

Toshev brings extensive experience to the role, holding a prominent coaching certification in Asia and serving as a member of the Asian Football Confederation.

The federation expressed optimism that Toshev’s appointment would provide stability to the team as they prepare for upcoming regional competitions.
