The Pakistani Foreign Ministry dismissed recent comments from the Taliban as “frivolous,” urging them to address its own domestic challenges, including the ongoing ban on female education.
The Taliban’s foreign ministry had earlier issued a statement expressing concern over rising tensions between Pakistan’s government and political opposition, warning that unrest could affect the stability of the broader region. Taliban called on Pakistan to handle the situation “reasonably and pragmatically” amid growing public discontent.
In response, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry denounced the Taliban’s statement as an unwarranted interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs. “Instead of lecturing a democratic country, the Afghan Interim Government should focus on its own issues, including promoting inclusivity and responding to the needs of its people—especially the right to education for women and girls—rather than curtailing their rights through a misguided interpretation of religion,” the ministry’s statement read.
The ministry also emphasized that the Taliban should uphold commitments made to the international community, particularly by denying safe harbor to terrorist groups that threaten regional peace and security.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and cooperation, stressing that all nations, including Afghanistan, should adhere to international norms and principles of state conduct. Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban have recently soured, with border clashes reported multiple times over the past two weeks.
