Taliban publicly flog three in Laghman on charges of ‘moral crimes’

Taliban on Monday publicly flogged three people in Laghman Province on charges of “moral acts and sodomy.”

According to a Taliban-run supreme court statement, the three were lashed 39 times.

One of them was also sentenced to four years and six months in prison, while the other two received one-year prison sentences, the statement said.

Earlier in the day, a woman in Faryab Province was also publicly flogged on charges of having “immoral relations” and fleeing her home.

Despite international calls for an end to such practices, the Taliban continue to carry out corporal punishments in public. Human rights organizations have raised concerns about the lack of access to fair trials under the Taliban’s judicial system, urging the group to halt their harsh treatment of citizens.
