UN’s Bennett condemns deadly Kabul attack as ‘shocking’

Richard Bennett, the United Nations special rapporteur for Afghanistan, described Monday’s deadly attack in Kabul as “shocking” and called for accountability.

In a post on X, Bennett condemned the violence, stating that “nothing justifies such violence.”

He emphasized the need for a full investigation and a fair trial to hold those responsible to account.

The suicide bombing occurred near the Taliban-run Attorney General’s Office in western Kabul, killing at least six people and injuring 13 others. The Islamic State, also known as Daesh, claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that more than 45 people, including Taliban members, were killed or wounded.

The attack has drawn widespread international condemnation. The U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan’s human rights and women also denounced the violence.

The bombing underscores the continuing instability in Afghanistan, where civilians and government offices remain frequent targets of militant groups.
