The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has welcomed the Taliban’s decision to permit female 12th-grade graduates to enroll in medical institutions in 11 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.
In a statement on X on Thursday, UNAMA described the decision as a “step in addressing worrying healthcare gaps.”
In its statement, UNAMA emphasized the necessity for women and girls to have full access to secondary and university education.
The Taliban had earlier announced that high school graduates are now allowed to enroll in medical institutes in 11 provinces.
Since its return to power, the Taliban have imposed restrictions on education, barring girls above grade six from attending schools and closing universities to girls and women.
