ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — More than 1,000 Afghan migrants were deported from Pakistan on Sunday, the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees in Afghanistan reported.
The deportations occurred at the Spin Boldak and Torkham border crossings in the Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces, respectively.
According to the ministry, 154 families (781 individuals) reentered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing, while 46 families (229 individuals) were sent back via Spin Boldak. Additionally, 31 Afghan nationals, previously imprisoned in Pakistan, were among those deported.
Pakistani media reported a slightly lower figure of 902 deportations on Jan. 7.
Since November 2023, Pakistan has repatriated 461,783 undocumented Afghan migrants, as per Pakistani media. The Taliban claims that Islamabad’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants has led to the deportation of over 800,000 Afghans.
