The Taliban has shuttered several girls’ training centers in Herat province, citing the presence of male teachers instructing female students.
The closure was confirmed by the head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Prosperity and Prohibition of Prohibition, who attributed the decision to the involvement of male teachers. The ministry clarified that activities would persist in educational centers where female teachers exclusively conduct instruction.
However, officials from the training centers argue that the Taliban’s closure was prompted by the teaching of the English language.
For the past two years, the Taliban has enforced the closure of schools beyond the sixth grade for girls. Additionally, since December of the previous year, access to universities has been denied to female students.
