A suicide bombing targeted a paramilitary force vehicle in the Hayat Abad area of Peshawar city in Pakistan on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the loss of one life and leaving at least seven individuals wounded, according to local police officials.
Pakistani media reported that Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a recently established militant group, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
While a senior official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the casualty figures as “one martyr and seven injured, all in stable condition,” Professor Shehzad Akbar Khan, the medical director of Hayatabad Medical Complex, verified that the hospital received two wounded individuals from the blast who were in stable condition. He further stated that the remaining injured victims were transported to another medical facility, CMH.
Authorities have determined that the explosion was the result of a suicide attack that targeted a vehicle belonging to the paramilitary Frontier Corps in Peshawar, as per police reports.
Pakistan’s army expressed grave concerns on Friday over the presence of militants finding safe havens in neighboring Afghanistan and issued a warning of an “effective response,” just two days after 12 soldiers lost their lives in two separate attacks.
Since the termination of a ceasefire agreement with the government in late 2022, insurgent attacks have witnessed a surge, including a devastating bombing at a mosque in Peshawar earlier this year, claiming the lives of over 100 people.
Recently, the same militant group targeted a military base in Balochistan, demonstrating their continued capability to carry out acts of violence.
