Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul confirmed that Asif Ali Khan Durrani has been appointed as Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan.

Durrani was Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran. He has also served as deputy head of Pakistan’s mission in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s former special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, resigned from his post in March.

The post was created with the aim of further strengthening Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and at the time of his appointment, Pakistan media reported.
