Murtaza Safa, an Afghan journalist living in Pakistan, was detained by Pakistani police in Islamabad on Tuesday, sources and his family members said.
Safa was taken into custody in the Faisal Town area of the Pakistani capital by men in civilian clothing and transferred to an undisclosed location, sources said.
His whereabouts and condition were not immediately known.
Family members said they had been informed that 300,000 Pakistani rupees had been demanded for his release.
Safa has worked with Marz TV and has lived in Pakistan for about four years, according to people familiar with his situation.
The reported detention comes amid an ongoing crackdown by Pakistani authorities on Afghan migrants and refugees. Pakistan has intensified deportations and detentions of Afghans in recent months as part of a broader campaign targeting undocumented foreigners.
Figures released by a Taliban commission overseeing migrant affairs indicate that nearly 3,000 Afghans were returned from Pakistan in the past 24 hours.
Pakistani authorities so far have not publicly commented on Safa’s detention.
