A number of residents of Takhar province in northeastern Afghanistan said that the assistance provided by humanitarian aid agencies is not distributed fairly and is given out to people who are not in need.
Qadria, the head of a seven-member family household, said that she has visited aid agencies in Takhar many times to get the required assistance but she has not been helped.
“They have not given me anything. It is provided to those who have cars. We’re starving,” Qadria said with a baby in her arms.
Other needy families said that the aid distribution by a number of aid agencies is not conducted transparently and that in some cases, they are not treated well by security guards of such organizations.
“Aid distribution was conducted four times, but nothing was given to needy families. I went to the Red Crescent Society office in Takhar but they pushed me back from entering the compound,” said a woman from Takhar who was standing in front of the Red Crescent office in the city of Taloqan, the center of Takhar province.
Similar complaints have been reported by needy families in Kabul and other parts of the country who say the assistance allocated to needy people reaches “Taliban-related people” in various areas.
