Blast happens outside military airport in Kabul; multiple casualties reported

An explosion happened at the first checkpoint outside the entrance gate of the Taliban’s military airport in Kabul on Sunday morning, leaving multiple casualties.

Taliban’s interior ministry confirmed the blast and “many casualties” but did not provide exact numbers.

Eyewitnesses said that the blast happened on the airport road near the entrance gate of Aria City, a famous township in Kabul.

They said that at least 20 people were killed and wounded in the explosion. The road was closed to traffic after the incident, said local residents.

Eyewitnesses said they heard a loud explosion and later saw many ambulances rushing to the area.

The target of the bombing is not clear so far. So far, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The blast comes as the country witnessed deadly attacks in 2022 that led to the death of dozens of civilians. Many of these attacks were claimed by Daesh, including attacks on Russian and Pakistani embassies in Kabul.
