Clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani troops continued overnight in several border provinces, as cross-border fighting entered its seventh day.
According to local sources, the two sides exchanged fire in Shamalzai district of Zabul province and Shorabak district of Kandahar province during the night.
Residents and local officials also reported Pakistani drone patrols over parts of Khost province.
Taliban local authorities said Pakistani forces fired mortar rounds into Samkani district in Paktia province overnight, with some shells hitting residential homes but causing no reported casualties.
They also said Pakistani troops fired dozens of artillery rounds into parts of Kunar over the past 24 hours. According to the officials, 82 shells struck Sarkano district, 15 hit Dangam district and four landed in Shultan district.
Taliban authorities said one child was injured in the shelling and that residents suffered significant property damage.
Local sources in several provinces told Amu TV that many of the Pakistani strikes in recent days appeared to target Taliban military facilities.
Pakistan has said its operations are aimed at militant groups operating from Afghanistan’s territory. According to a report by Bloomberg citing a senior Pakistani security official, Islamabad is not seeking “regime change” in Afghanistan and says its military actions are focused on what it describes as terrorist groups.
The violence marks the latest escalation along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Over the past week, Pakistani fighter jets have carried out strikes in several parts of Afghanistan, including Bagram Air Base and areas in Kabul, Nangarhar and Kandahar, according to Taliban officials and local sources.
Pakistan’s military says it has targeted Taliban military facilities and killed more than 350 Taliban members. Taliban officials, in turn, claim that more than 150 Pakistani soldiers have been killed and that their forces have captured several Pakistani border outposts.
Neither side’s battlefield claims could be independently verified.
