Three children were killed and a woman and another child injured when the roof of a house collapsed in Nuristan province in eastern Afghanistan, Taliban officials said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred early in the morning in Quraishzada village in Mandol district, according to a statement from the Taliban governor’s office in Nuristan.
Two 10-year-old girls and a boy from the same family were killed in the collapse, the statement said, adding that the injured were taken to the nearest medical facility for treatment.
The statement said parts of the mountainside near the house had previously experienced landslides and that vibrations from earlier instability may have triggered the collapse.
Nuristan is a remote, mountainous province where poor infrastructure and difficult terrain leave residents vulnerable to natural disasters, including landslides and building collapses, particularly during the winter season.
