Three women were found dead in a Karachi apartment under unexplained circumstances, police in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province said on Tuesday.

Pakistani media, citing Karachi police, reported that the victims were discovered in their residence in the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood. Police identified the women as Sameena, 52; her 19-year-old daughter Samreen; and her 22-year-old daughter-in-law, Maha.

Zubair Nazir Ahmed Sheikh, deputy prosecutor for East Karachi, said investigators had obtained initial leads but declined to share details. He said police were alerted to the bodies by Mohammad Iqbal, Sameena’s husband. “Both father and son are under observation,” he added.

Dr. Summaiya Syed, a forensic specialist, told Dawn newspaper that Maha’s body showed signs of partial decomposition, suggesting the three women may have died at different times — a detail she said strengthened suspicions of foul play.

Sheikh earlier said investigators had ruled out a gas leak and noted that there were no signs of forced entry, strangulation or other visible injuries on the bodies.

Police say the cause of death remains under investigation.
