Access to Instagram has been restricted in Afghanistan since Tuesday afternoon, several sources told Amu.
The sources said users in Kabul and some other parts of the country can no longer access Instagram without a VPN. The reason for the restriction remains unclear, and the Taliban have not yet commented.
The move follows previous bans imposed by the Taliban-controlled Ministry of Telecommunications on the video-sharing app TikTok and the online game PUBG, both of which were blocked nationwide.
On Sept. 29, Taliban also ordered a 48-hour nationwide shutdown of the internet and mobile phone networks, a move that drew widespread criticism from rights groups and media watchdogs. Taliban have yet to provide any explanation for that decision.
