A young man was fatally stabbed during a dispute over cricket in the eastern city of Jalalabad, local sources said Friday.

The victim, identified as Ibrahim, was killed Friday night in the Daman area after an argument between two men over players on Afghanistan’s national cricket team escalated into a fight following the team’s loss to Sri Lanka, the sources said.

Ibrahim died of his injuries before reaching a hospital, according to the sources. The suspected attacker fled the scene.

Taliban authorities in Nangarhar have not commented on the incident.
