A traffic accident on the Kabul–Jalalabad highway left one person dead and two others injured Wednesday, local sources said.

The crash happened in Qarghayi district of Laghman province when a Land Cruiser collided with another vehicle, a Pars model, according to residents. After the collision, the Land Cruiser overturned into a roadside river. The driver was killed, and two passengers were injured.

The wounded were taken to a nearby hospital, where health officials said the condition of one victim was critical.

Road accidents have been on the rise across Afghanistan in recent weeks. In the past week alone, nine people were killed in Baghlan province, and 13 others died in separate crashes in Nangarhar and Badakhshan. Authorities often cite reckless driving and poor road conditions as the main causes.
