Two drone strikes in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province injured four civilians, including three children and a woman, according to a statement Thursday from the Taliban governor’s office.
The statement said the strikes took place Wednesday night in Shinwari district, targeting the home of a civilian named Shahsawar “with no known affiliation to any armed group”. Three rooms of the house were destroyed, the statement said. The injured were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition.
On the same night, another airstrike was reported in the Spera district in the neighboring Khost province. No immediate details were available from this incident.
While the source of the drones has not been confirmed, similar airstrikes in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces have previously been attributed to Pakistan.
In December 2024, Pakistan conducted airstrikes in Paktika province. Those airstrikes reportedly struck seven sites across four villages.
The Taliban condemned the Pakistani strikes, claiming 46 civilians—mostly women and children—were killed. They denounced the attacks as violations of Afghan sovereignty and vowed retaliation.
