Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s planned visit to India later this month has been canceled after the UN Security Council declined to grant him a travel ban exemption, sources told Amu on Monday.

Muttaqi was scheduled to travel to India from Aug. 27 to 29, but New Delhi withdrew its invitation after the exemption request was denied, the sources said.

Earlier, a Taliban delegation led by Mohibullah Wasiq visited India, though Indian authorities did not extend any formal diplomatic protocol to the group.

This marks the second time this month that Muttaqi has been unable to travel abroad due to the UN travel restrictions. His planned trip to Pakistan was also canceled after the Security Council declined to grant a temporary waiver.

Many Taliban leaders, including Muttaqi, remain under UN sanctions, requiring special approval for international travel.
