The US mission for Afghanistan announced Thursday that Don Brown has been appointed as the new chargé d’affaires, taking over the role on an acting basis.
Brown succeeds Karen Decker, who the embassy said was recognized for “years of service and dedicated leadership” in the US mission for Afghanistan.
Brown has served as deputy chief of mission since November 2023 and will temporarily lead the embassy.
The US Embassy for Afghanistan has operated out of Doha, Qatar, since August 2021, when the Taliban took over Kabul and the US relocated its diplomatic mission from Afghanistan.
