Pakistan’s foreign ministry said Tuesday that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with Ramin Hameish Falconer, Britain’s parliamentary undersecretary of state for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, to discuss ways to expand cooperation.

In a statement, the ministry said the two sides stressed the importance of maintaining regular high-level engagement to strengthen existing ties and explore new avenues of strategic partnership in the region.

Both officials reviewed the full range of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation in political, economic, climate and people-to-people exchanges, the ministry said. They also discussed regional and global developments.

The ministry added that the talks included the importance of a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The meeting came as Pakistan is expected to host a gathering next week that will bring together Afghan political figures and activists.

The planned event has drawn mixed reactions.
