Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the state-run electricity provider, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with Sadaf Energy, a joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek energy company, to collaborate on power generation and capacity building for Afghanistan’s electrical engineers.
The agreement was signed by Abdul Bari Omar, Taliban-appointed chief for DABS, and Alisher, a representative of Sadaf Energy, during a ceremony in Kabul, the company said in a statement.
According to DABS, the agreement signals growing foreign interest in Afghanistan’s energy sector, with a focus on both infrastructure development and technical training. Omar assured the visiting delegation that energy projects could now proceed “with full confidence.”
The agreement comes amid ongoing challenges in Afghanistan’s energy infrastructure, which remains heavily reliant on imports and suffers from underinvestment and limited capacity in rural regions.
DABS said the memorandum builds on earlier deals signed with international firms from Turkey, the Czech Republic, and other countries. The company claims that work on several of those projects is already underway.
