ISLAMABAD — A suicide bombing targeting a Pakistani military convoy in North Waziristan killed two security personnel and wounded 10 others, including two civilians, Pakistani authorities said on Sunday.
According to local media reports, the attacker rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy in the Eidak area of North Waziristan, a region long troubled by militant activity.
In a separate incident, the Pakistani military said it had killed six suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in the Ghulam Khan area of North Waziristan. The military did not specify the group to which the militants belonged.
Meanwhile, a gunfight between Pakistani police and a militant took place on Saturday in Abbas Khatak, Lakki Marwat, also in North Waziristan. The exchange left one person dead and another wounded, according to police sources.
A police official said the clash began after an armed attacker opened fire on a police patrol near the Kurram River belt.
North Waziristan, part of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has seen a resurgence of militant violence in recent years, with attacks targeting both security forces and civilians. While no group has claimed responsibility for the latest incidents, the region remains a stronghold for Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other armed groups.
Pakistani authorities have launched a series of operations in an effort to curb militancy in the area, but violence continues to pose a major security challenge.
