KHOST, Afghanistan — Three of the seven suspects arrested in connection with the killing of 13 family members in Khost province have confessed to the crime, the Taliban’s police department said in a statement on Sunday.
The attack took place last week in Ali Sher district, where gunmen shot and killed 13 members of the same family.
According to the statement, three individuals, including a father and his two sons, have been found guilty in connection with the incident. The father, identified as Mangal, 50, confessed, after which his sons, Ahmad, 20, and Hafizullah, 18, fled. They were later arrested on Sunday in Paktia province’s Zazi Maidan district.
The three suspects are residents of Said Karam district in Paktia, but the motive behind the killings remains unclear, Taliban officials said.
Taliban also reported seizing two AK-47 rifles from the arrested individuals. The Taliban have not provided further details on the status of the other four suspects or whether additional charges will be filed.
