Chinese national killed in shooting in northern Afghanistan: Sources

A Chinese national was killed in a shooting by an unidentified gunman in the northeastern province of Takhar on Tuesday evening, January 21, local sources told Amu on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when the victim, accompanied by an interpreter and another individual, was attacked, according to the sources.

Following the incident, the Taliban detained the Chinese national’s interpreter in connection with the shooting, the sources said.

However, Taliban officials have not yet issued a formal statement about the attack.

The motive and details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the identity of the Chinese national has not been disclosed.

Taliban reportedly arrived at the scene after the shooting and have launched a search for the assailant.
