Muttaqi pushes for Afghan worker opportunities in UAE talks

Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in a meeting with UAE officials, including Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE’s Minister of Economy, discussed economic cooperation, trade and the potential for sending Afghan workers to the Gulf nation, according to a Taliban statement on Thursday.

The discussions also focused on strengthening trade ties and expanding economic collaboration, the statement said.

According to the statement,Al Marri expressed the UAE’s interest in increasing commerce with Afghanistan, signaling a willingness to explore new avenues of economic engagement.

Muttaqi, for his part, highlighted Afghanistan’s economic conditions and promoted the country’s investment opportunities in sectors such as mining, mechanized agriculture, and trade facilitation, the statement added.

He also called for Afghan laborers to be allowed to work in the UAE, framing this as a vital opportunity for both countries.

Other topics reportedly included marketing Afghanistan’s agricultural products, enhancing trade and transit links, normalizing banking relations, and fostering closer cooperation between chambers of commerce.

The statement mentioned that the two sides agreed to establish technical teams to develop and implement these proposals, according to the Taliban.
