UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations Security Council is set to convene on Thursday, December 12, to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.
This marks the Council’s fourth meeting on Afghanistan this year, reflecting ongoing international concern about the country’s political, humanitarian, and security challenges.
The Council previously announced that Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), will present her quarterly report on the country during the session.
In addition, the chair of the U.N. sanctions committee for Afghanistan and a representative from the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) are also scheduled to address the Council, according to the statement.
The meeting comes as Afghanistan grapples with intensifying restrictions on women, economic instability, and a worsening humanitarian crisis under Taliban rule.
