Muslim Muradi, the deputy governor of Iran’s Lorestan province, warned local employers against hiring Afghan migrants, stating that those who employ undocumented Afghans will face “decisive” legal action, according to a report by the ISNA news agency.

“The employment of Afghan workers in cooperatives, production units, agricultural lands, and projects in Borujerd County is strictly prohibited,” Muradi said. He emphasized that reports of Afghan laborers in local workplaces, whether through citizen reports or government inspections, would lead to legal consequences for employers.

Muradi further noted that undocumented foreign nationals, including Afghan migrants, are banned from activities such as driving and transporting goods, adding, “The law prohibits the entry of undocumented foreign nationals.” He also urged Afghan migrants whose documents have expired to leave the province promptly.

In recent months, Afghan migrants in Iran have reported cases of mistreatment, including beatings and deportations that separated families, with some migrants alleging abuse by Iranian police. Meanwhile, during a recent visit to Switzerland, an Iranian official called on the United Nations to allocate additional funds to support the country’s management of refugee affairs.
