SHUSHA, Azerbaijan — Business leaders from Afghanistan and Azerbaijan met on the sidelines of the 6th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Business Forum to discuss expanding trade and investment between the two countries, Azerbaijani media reported on Monday.

The meeting, held in the city of Shusha, brought together representatives from Azerbaijan’s Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) and the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment. It focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties and identifying potential areas for future cooperation.

Yusif Abdullayev, executive director of AZPROMO, welcomed the Afghan delegation and provided an overview of Karabakh’s historical and cultural significance. He also outlined AZPROMO’s strategic goals in attracting foreign investment and promoting Azerbaijani exports.

Tawakul Ahmadyar, chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said he was pleased with the Afghan delegation’s visit to Shusha and voiced interest in deepening Afghanistan’s economic engagement with Azerbaijan.

Officials said discussions centered on possible joint ventures and avenues for future collaboration in trade, logistics, and infrastructure, though no formal agreements were announced.

The ECO Business Forum is part of the wider Economic Cooperation Organization summit, aimed at enhancing economic integration among member states across Central and South Asia and the Middle East.
