Six people were killed in a clash between Taliban forces and ISIS fighters in Ghor Province, local sources told Amu on Sunday. The fighting occurred in the Nurkoh area, north of Firozkoh, the provincial capital.

In a statement, Taliban confirmed the operation, saying they had targeted an ISIS hideout in the area. The statement claimed that three “key members” of ISIS were killed in the raid, and that the ISIS cell was reportedly operating under the guidance of ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) leaders based in Pakistan’s Balochistan region.

Taliban also said that the ISIS members were involved in attacks on civilians in Ghor Province.

In a deadly attack in Ghor province in September, 14 members of the Hazara community from Daikundi province were killed.

Taliban have repeatedly denied the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan, despite continued clashes and attacks attributed to the group.
