Young man dies by suicide in Uruzgan

A young man in Uruzgan Province has died by suicide, reportedly due to mounting economic and psychological pressures, local sources said on Monday.

The incident took place on Monday in Tarinkot, the provincial capital of Uruzgan. The deceased has been identified as Abdullah Abid, a resident of the city.

Relatives of the victim said Abid had been struggling with severe financial difficulties and mental health issues in recent months, which they believe contributed to his decision to take his own life.

Local Taliban officials confirmed the death but did not provide further details.

Similar cases have been reported across various provinces in recent months, with many linked to worsening poverty, unemployment, and the lack of access to mental health services.

Afghanistan’s economic crisis, exacerbated by international isolation and the collapse of public services following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, has placed millions under intense financial strain. Mental health care remains largely inaccessible for much of the population.
