Political analyst Jawed Kohistani arrested by Taliban: Sources

Jawed Kohistani, a well-known political analyst, has been arrested by Taliban intelligence forces in Kabul, according to sources.

Sources confirmed that Kohistani was detained on Thursday in the Sarai Shamali area north of the capital.

The reason for his arrest remains unclear, and the Taliban have not yet commented on the matter.

Kohistani had left Afghanistan following the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021. However, he returned to Kabul last summer after the Taliban announced a “general amnesty” for former government officials and critics.

The Taliban’s intelligence service has been criticized for targeting dissenting voices, though no official explanation for Kohistani’s detention has been provided.
