Afghanistan falls short in third ODI match against South Africa but clinches series

Afghanistan came up short in the third One Day International (ODI) match against South Africa, losing by seven wickets, but secured the series win with victories in the first two matches.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Afghanistan struggled early. Opener Abdul Malik was dismissed quickly, followed by a string of run-outs that further hampered the team’s progress. Despite these setbacks, Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided a crucial knock, scoring 89 off 94 balls, while Allah Ghazanfar contributed an unbeaten 30 off 15. Afghanistan was bowled out for 170 in 34 overs.

South Africa faced a minor setback when captain Temba Bavuma was dismissed by Ghazanfar, but Aiden Markram’s 69 off 67 balls guided the Proteas to their target in 33 overs, sealing the win.

Despite the defeat, Afghanistan emerged victorious in the three-match series, having won the first two encounters.
